Some current works, trying new techniques using images processed through p5.js and laser engraving, as well as drawing from GAN prompted images. The gif, and subsequent reference for the drawing of one frame, was created with images produced in Dall.E. Last year I was mostly looking at marks, and graffiti in my own environments, examining how they disrupt the homogeny of non-spaces; this year I've continued with this as well as examining the transformation of (specifically British) symbols of folklore and heritage into the contemporary moment. I'm interested in their bastardisation/commercialisation, and how this lends them to accesibility. Still considering Jane Bennett's 'Enchantment of Modern Life', I've thought about how the commodified object/symbols still maintain the ability to provoke 'enchantment' and motivation for ethical behaviour, and how mysticism appears in a digital age. Looking at the nuance in subverting large frameworks is something I've carried on from last year- how the public non-space can be reclaimed in first year, and how cultural symbols are reinterpreted/corrupted in a digital age this year. With the heart carvings, I wanted to take a universal graffiti, and replicate anonymity by making some with no human author, or even physical existence, provoking question of the genuine sentimentality evoked without a human hand at play.
